Subluxation

subluxationA sublux’what, you ask? A subluxation, also known as vertebral subluxation, is when one or more bones in your vertebrae (spine) has altered its position.  This misalignment can create pressure or irritate the spinal nerves.

“A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health.”

The nervous system is integral to the body; think of it as the control panel for your body.  Should the nerves located between each of the bones in the spine become irritated, they are apt to cause interference or neural disturbances.  Vertebral subluxation can cause the body and brain to receive incomplete signals.

According to Mosby’s Medical Dictionary, Mosby-Year book, Inc, Version 1.5, 1995, a “Subluxation” is formally defined as “…a partial abnormal separation of the articular surfaces of a joint.”
